About Me

As a therapist, my passion for human connection and psychology stems from my own journey of self-discovery and healing as a gay man raised in the heart of the South.  Grappling with societal expectations and internalized stigma, I found refuge, relief, and resilience in therapy. I learned to embrace authenticity and vulnerability in a world which discourages such acts of defiance.

My therapeutic philosophy is anchored in creating a non-judgmental and supportive environment where people can explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences without fear of rejection. I aim to empower my clients to embrace their authentic selves and take charge of their mental, emotional, relational, and sexual well-being.

Experience and Clinical Focus

I hold a masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Antioch University Seattle with a focus in Sex Therapy. I completed my practicum under the guidance of PNW Sex Therapy Collective and Modern Therapy Seattle where I gained extensive training in treating diverse client populations across a variety of mental health, relationship, and sexual concerns.

In my own clinical practice, I specialize in working with individuals, couples, and diverse relationship structures to address issues of emotional health, identity, connection, and sexuality.

Background

A native East Tennessean, I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and was a member of the varsity men’s swim team (Go Heels!). I moved to Seattle after undergrad to pursue a career in tech and spent 8 years working in various Product and Marketing roles at Amazon.

Ultimately, I found myself feeling stuck, burned out, and unfulfilled. I realized my true passion lies in helping people confront and move through the challenges which deeply impact their personal and relational lives. As a clinician, I aim to provide the same care and guidance to my clients that has been graciously given to me by my own therapists and mentors over the past two decades.

Outside of the therapy room, I’m an avid outdoorsman and concert/theater-goer with a passion for skiing, backpacking, dance music, and all things Broadway.

Why People Choose Me

  • Clients, colleagues, and friends often describe me as warm, compassionate, and easy to open up to. It is important to me that my clients feel safe, heard, and understood in session as we are often discussing difficult and challenging topics. For this reason, I bring my full self into my work - including lightness and humor when appropriate - to help my clients feel comfortable and supported in our work together.

  • While I approach my work with warmth and compassion, I work well with clients who appreciate direct and straightforward communication from their therapist. A colleague of mine best describes this as “carefrontation.” I will actively challenge my clients in session when I notice thoughts, behaviors, or actions that seem to be incongruent with a client’s stated goals or objectives.

  • I enjoy working with clients to find the right therapeutic modality that works for their unique circumstances and needs to ensure the therapeutic process is as much collaborative as it is supportive. I regularly check in with clients to make sure they are satisfied with how our work is progressing and will change course if/when needed.

  • At the core of my practice is empowerment. My goal is to help my clients build the skills, self-awareness, and resiliency necessary to tackle the various complexities and challenges of life such that they no longer need me. Of course, I am always available for support should problems arise again in the future, and I enjoy working with clients on a continuous basis for those who prefer ongoing therapy.
